Bad at Birthdays was the result of a year-long collaboration between Jesse and the actors Dominique Brillon, Dana Kaplan-Angle, Layla Khoshnoudi and Joseph Lymous. The film’s characters were developed through an extended devising process built around personal narrative and relationship with a specific location— in this case, a house in Stratford, CT. The film was shot in Stratford over ten days in November of 2019 and was supported by grants from the Mighty Quinn and Crestwood Foundations. It was filmed by DP Suzi Sadler on mini DV tape using a Panasonic DVX camcorder.
